Hootie and The Blowfish can always rely on Charleston to love their every move, but Hootie’s Homegrown Weekend goes far beyond the band’s likeable, outside-in-the-summer sounds. For 12 years now, Hootie and friends have performed at Homegrown to raise money for underprivileged kids in Charleston via the band’s own foundation — what’s not to love? Last year, singer-songwriter Corey Smith opened for Hootie on Friday, and Saturday’s performances included Edwin McCain and Drivin’ N Cryin’ before Darius Rucker and the boys closed down the sold-out show. The weekend also featured a totally free Homegrown Family Day, featuring local acts like McKenna Andrews, SUSTO, and Elise Testone. This year’s Homegrown Weekend is Aug. 7-8 at, once again, Daniel Island’s Family Circle Stadium.
