We were McStunned this fall to learn that McDonald’s play-doh patty the McRib was inspired by Charleston. According to a Mickey D’s YouTube video, franchise historian Jessica Farrell says that the creation began in 1980 when McDonald’s Chef Rene traveled to our fair city, ate a mind-blowing plate of ribs, and immediately decided to bastardize the experience in perpetuity with the unholy mess that is the McRib. But it’s not all empty calories. Turns out Farrell is a CofC grad. So Cougars, if you work hard enough, you too could go on to a career explaining the culinary nightmares McDonald’s has unleashed on our nation.
