In this recession, where property sales are referred to as steals (only half-jokingly), the City of Charleston has a new vision it would like to sell you. Basically, it’s combining two needs. Downtown’s healthcare neighborhood (MUSC, Roper, and the Veterans Administration) needs room to expand, and the city needs to find something to do with the big, barren parking lot that currently provides space for Citadel and RiverDog games. The problem is that the land is largely undevelopable without sweetheart incentives. So, the city has mapped out a redevelopment vision for the area that centers on the property. The hope is for some mixed-use development that is centered on a 21st century medical park. We wouldn’t start worrying about your favorite RiverDogs parking spot just yet.
