When it comes to the shortage of good skate spots in the Lowcountry, the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission grabbed the unicorn by the horn in October when it announced its choice of designer for a soon-to-be-built skatepark. Team Pain is a big name in the industry, with 30 years' experience and feats to its name including the creation of the world's first wooden skate loop. One look at the company's portfolio photos is enough to make skaters antsy with anticipation: Sprawling wave forms, steep bowls, and abundant ramps have made for little slices of concrete paradise in cities from Colorado to Kortrijk, Belgium. No date has been set for the completion of the park, which will be beneath the ramps of Interstate 26 near the intersection of Meeting and Huger streets.
