Band reunions are a common phenomenon in Charleston, but the Archetypes reunion last May was a biggie for many old-school Charleston fans. The preppy pop-rock band was huge in town during the late '80s and early '90s. The Archetypes rocked frat parties and clubs with up-tempo original tunes and a mix of classic and preppy college rock favorites. For a spell, they were one of the most beloved, in-demand rock bands in Charleston. Singer Tommy Dew and guitarists Kevin Wadley and Joey Allawos — three of the original members — welcomed special guests Hank Futch (of the Blue Dogs), Tommy Hamer (of the Fire Apes), and Dave Stewart (of both the Blue Dogs and the Fire Apes) to complete the lineup. The show went so well, they booked another at the Pour House a few months later.
