We fell in love with Christian Royal’s pottery
the minute we touched his carefully constructed bowls and perfectly shaped platters. Delicate and sturdy at the same time, his pieces incorporate the artistry of both leaves and laces. In colors like “peacock” and “sapphire blue,” his dishes and jewelry stand out, even in the impressive world of Charleston artisans. We were even more surprised to learn that Royal has Down syndrome. Pottery became the focus of his life after taking his first lesson at Fire and Earth Pottery, and he has honed his skills with the help of professional potters John and Jan Myers. Royal’s pottery has now been sold and featured at multiple stores and galleries, including Wonder Works, Ellis-Nicholson Gallery, Open House, Peyton William Jewelry Studio, and Kiawah Island’s Freshfields Village. Christian, we think you’re doing just fine.
