Ask anyone who’s spent any time in Charleston and they’ll tell you that D’Allesandro’s Pizza has always turned out some of the best pizza in the city. For more than a decade, brothers Benny and Nick D’Allesandro have built a reputation for creative pizza from their corner spot at St. Philip and Bogard streets.
First catering to college students living in Cannonborough-Elliotborough and in-the-know locals when they opened in the mid 2000s, Nick says that their business has changed little over the years. They’ve tried different things, but have settled on a formula that keeps people coming back: just keep making quality pies at the right price. Longtime favorites include the Get Gnarly and Chauncinator, but D’Al’s light, crispy crust also lends it to simple go-tos like the Spicy Benny, a plain cheese pie with pepperoni, jalapeno, and feta. Stop by for a quick lunch for under $10 or stay for a while with a few cold local beers on tap. —Sam Spence
