When we heard that Lower King was getting a bookstore devoted solely to cookbooks, we rejoiced. Then we scratched our heads a little, wondering if such a niche operation could be sustainable. We shouldn't have worried, though, because Heirloom seems to be doing just fine (knock on wood). The bright, airy shop boasts shelves of the latest cookbook releases, especially by Southern authors like Nathalie Dupree (Southern Biscuits), Lisa Dupar (Fried Chicken and Champagne), and Griff and Cheryl Day (The Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook). They also collect rare vintage cookbooks, and they host the occasional dinner or photography show.
