According to GlowSpa, float therapy — a.k.a. flotation, a.k.a. R.E.S.T. (restricted environmental stimulation technique), a.k.a. isolation tanks — is one of the best ways to treat stress and induce relaxation. Count us in. The process involves lying in a saltwater solution the same temperature as your body for one to two hours. Because the water is the same temperature as your skin, your brain confuses which parts of you are in the water and which aren’t. Trippy. We could go into a pretty detailed description of how this brain wave stuff works, but we think you’d like it better if you just checked it out for yourself. The benefits of floating can happen in one session, but a lot of people like to try three to five sessions to really get the full effects. Don’t be too intimidated by the prospect of your first float. You can even drift off to sleep. And no, you can’t drown (trust us, that was our first thought, too).
