1770 Records started up in 2011 thanks to professor Heather McDonald’s Music in the Marketplace class at the College of Charleston. But last year, the student-run label became an official organization, and thus, a pretty big deal. Every month, 1770 Records releases a new single by a different artist, including a track from Hootie & The Blowfish’s Mark Bryan. The label also regularly organizes music events, like February’s Night at the Museum. With so much hands-on music industry experience and — admit it — fun, we can’t help but be jealous of the lucky ones who get to take advantage of it now.
