There’s a huge amount of anticipation for the reopening of the Dock Street Theatre on Church Street after its three-year, $20 million overhaul. The city-owned 200-year-old building will now have elevators, full wheelchair access, and seats that you’ll actually be able to sit on for more than an hour without your ass going to sleep. Audiences should feel safer too — the theater has been strengthened against earthquakes and hurricanes. Following a gala opening on April 1, the Dock Street will be used for the Spoleto Festival. Charleston Stage will be back in the space for regular shows from the fall onwards.
