Best Sign that Park Circle is Getting Classy No. 1

Staff Pick

Say what you will about Park Circle’s dining scene, but posh isn’t the first word that comes to mind. Fratello’s comes closest to being swanky, but it still has that family-friendly neighborhood Italian restaurant vibe. Enter Lotus. This Vietnamese joint was a late-2015 addition to the Olde North Charleston Business District, and right from the get-go, it stood out for reasons that had nothing to do with the type of cuisine offered. Unlike the other area restaurants, Lotus has a hip, young professional sheen to it, one that in part seems out of place in the boho-meets-blue collar ’hood. But a few months in, it’s hard to imagine the strip without it. And with good reason: They serve solid Vietnamese fare, and that swanky feel, well, it makes you feel just a little bit like you’re on a fancy night out. —Chris Haire
