We’ve gone paperless in almost every way: bills, bank statements, concert tickets, the daily newspaper. But we’re still getting junk mail from Congressman Henry Brown. Sometimes it will show up as a quarterly newsletter. Other times, it’s a survey on earmarks and healthcare or a calendar we can put on the refrigerator. An Associated Press report in 2007 noted that Brown led the 2006 Congress in mailings: 1,257,972 pieces of junk. Well, the Republican workhorse with a saddlebag full of postage stamps announced in January that he’s coming home. Of all the things that the next representative can promise us, the most important may be e-mail.
