If you haven't noticed, Charleston has a lot of old stuff (the Exchange Building, a bunch of churches, our mayor). Unfortunately, it takes mucho dinero to preserve all this, and some of it slips through the cracks. The Garden Theatre — now Urban Outfitters — is one such oldie-but-goodie that got away. The theater originally opened in 1918 and was the happenin' host of silent movies, motion pictures, and live performances until 2004. Today, the building is home to racks and racks of wannabe vintage threads. Luckily, the interior and exterior have been pretty well maintained — it's still an awe-inspiring cave of a place. Going in there is a little weird though — the neon tights and bright bangles don't quite fill the shoes of the old vaudeville house. But, hey, the shop is pretty sweet. And who doesn't enjoy tongue-in-cheek tees?
