The rumors are true: Everyone at City Paper has a tattoo of Thomas Ravenel. The problem is, we sure as hell wish we’d gotten them done at Broken Lantern Tattoo instead of by, actually, we’re not sure who did it. Broken Lantern prides itself on creating a special piece of body art for every client. Tattoo artist Glenn Collins is just that — an artist. He researches tattoo designs before he ever sets needle to skin. We’re particularly impressed with an octopus tattoo in Collins’ portfolio; apparently the big guy’s arm he inked belonged to an actual octopus catcher. Talk about a convergence of coolness. As for artist Paul Zapico, he wants his work to last a lifetime, which is probably one of the more important aspects of tattoo artistry (unless you’re still totally regretting that back-alley ink job). Zapico’s “Uncle Sam Fighting Eagle” piece sure isn’t something we’d want to fade away. God bless America and Broken Lantern Tattoo, who will be moving to a new location on the same street in a few weeks.
