For Piccolo Spoleto 2014, What If? Productions put on the East Coast debut of Kate & Sam Are Not Breaking Up, a darkly comedic send-up of Twilight fan culture. Castmember Andrew Hinds earned big laughs as Bill, a deranged but lovable superfan who kidnaps the stars of the Ghost Forest paranormal romance series and tries to convince them to get back together as a real-life couple. But the real star of the show was Eden Teichman, a 15-year-old Charleston School of the Arts student in the role of Ghost Forest fansite moderator Becky. With shocking ferocity, she switched fluidly back and forth between giggly otaku and violent psychopath, fearlessly crossing every character’s physical boundary as she stormed across the set. In the tiny Threshold Repertory Theatre, the audience had a real reason to be afraid. In the next few years, the theater world had better watch out for Teichman.
