Vegans are slowly gaining more culinary choices in Charleston. A mecca of fried chicken and pork barbecue, the area has not always been hospitable to our herbivorous friends. The Sprout is working to change this inequity. The café offers a variety of options to-go, including quinoa, portabella burgers, salads, and mock tuna and egg salad. A new grab-and-go cooler at Seeking Indigo on King Street is part of The Sprout’s latest expansion, which also includes a presence at the Charleston Farmer’s Market, Mt. Pleasant Farmer’s Market, and Whole Foods. So while others may be chomping on artery-clogging snacks, rest assured, there is a better way.
