The veteran microbrewery unveiled samples of its new summer specialty last fall —a hazy-golden watermelon wheat beer, made with melons from Legare Farms on Johns Island. Ed Falkenstein says they added pureed watermelon to a young wheat beer in the Palmetto fermentation tanks after an initial brew. It tasted young and rind-y, but it had surprisingly clean, dry finish. This light ale should be available this season.
