Best Visiting Documentary Filmmaker

Ken Burns

Staff Pick

Taking a break from his busy schedule of chronicling all that is American culture, documentary filmmaker Ken Burns made a stop in Charleston to debut clips from his newest film on baseball legend Jackie Robinson and lead a discussion on race relations. Joined by historian and fellow filmmaker Henry Louis Gates Jr., Burns was candid in his discussion of Charleston’s past and the important role that history plays in today’s current social and political climate. And with the proceeds from his appearance at the Gaillard Center going to benefit the International African-American Museum, Burns continues to ensure that nothing is forgotten. —Dustin Waters
