James Simpson was certainly known in nightlife circles, winning our first award for Sexiest Male Bartender. But it wasn’t until a few months later that Simpson got a much higher profile headshot, compliments of the Charleston County Detention Center. Simpson was arrested for allegedly stealing a large painting from the front window of Hank’s Seafood Restaurant. Valued at $25,000, the work had more personal significance to owner Hank Holliday; it was based on a photo of his father holding a redfish and a fishing pole. No offense to our talented photographers, but Simpson’s bad-boy mugshot was the sexier of the two. Lucky for him, Holliday was just happy to get the painting back and saw the whole ordeal as a foolish prank.
