Best Way To See the Festival of Lights

Pre-opening Walk

Staff Pick

James Island County Park’s location on the Stono River is an ideal spot for a park for 45 weeks of the year. But for the few weeks leading up to the holidays during the James Island Festival of Lights, sending thousands of cars to a remote corner of James Island only accessible by a series of two-lane roads doesn’t make much sense. Pro tip: For a couple nights the county sells a limited number of tickets for a “non-competitive” two-mile run/walk through the park. Can you think of a better way to take in the lights and sounds even if it means a bit of extra Christmas creep? —Sam Spence
