Anyone who thinks they can't afford a meal out downtown has never been to George Street's Jack's Cafe. You have to get there on weekdays before 3:30 p.m., dealing with a throng of College of Charleston students in the process, but there's no better place to stretch a buck. Bacon swiss cheeseburger with fries? That's $4.35. Reuben? $4.80. Biscuits and gravy and hash browns? Just as cheap for the whole mess of it. It'll probably cost you more to park in the garage around the corner than it will for a small side of fries, and the menu is so varied that you won't ever get bored spending a Lincoln here.
