Best West Ashley Brunch

Early Bird Diner

Readers Pick

Early Bird has all the makings of a greasy spoon, but with the high caliber, creative dishes you may expect to find in a more austere space.

With funky art by local artists adorning the walls and the visage of Ice-T staring out at you from, you guessed it, the three gallon iced tea dispenser, you feel like you can show up to breakfast as you are. That may mean a little greasy, perhaps wearing last night’s outfit. Early Bird doesn’t care.

Breakfast is served all day, a move not in response to a growing trend, but just the way it’s always been at this Savannah Hwy. hotspot. And we do mean hot.

Early Bird was featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives in 2012. According to Guy Fieri “the savory, sweet, crunchy and salty” sensations from the chicken and waffles “seem so wrong, but are just so right.”

This past summer, for our breakfast in the city cover story, we sat in on a Sunday morning brunch rush at Early Bird. Server Lindsay Gorecki told us at the time that one week in July, they did 480 covers in a morning shift. “I had 102.”

At 10 a.m., we saw customers order everything from tomato soup to blueberry cobbler. It’s a safe space, this eclectic little diner, where you can flaunt your ice blonde tips or order hot soup before noon in the dead of summer. Smiling GM Danny Infinger keeps your cuppa full and the team of dedicated servers don’t miss a beat. Be sure to get in line early, or swing by for late night fried chicken. —Mary Scott Hardaway
