Matt Drudge may be the nation’s best-known news aggregator, and he’s made a very successful career out of collecting politically charged headlines. Local graphic designer Ken Hawkins, formerly of The Post and Courier, has taken the idea a step further. With a focus on news stories from Charleston, Hawkins and his crew hit every local news source, pull from a host of press releases, and even turn out a little original content to offer a strictly web-based perspective on the day’s news. Last fall, the effort was rewarded with an undisclosed buy-in from the Palmetto Investments and Exchange Group, a local firm that targets small companies with big potential. The outfit is now looking to expand to other Carolina markets.
