Led by trombone man “Big Sam” Williams (formerly of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band), New Orleans’ big, brassy funk ensemble Big Sam’s Funky Nation returns to Charleston for a session at the Pour House. Backed by guitarist Takeshi Shimmura, bassist Eric Vogel, drummer Milk, and singer/trumpeter Andrew Baham, Williams works a high-energy mix of New Orleans “street-dance,” jazz, and pure funk with an improvisational style, masterful chops, and a horn-heavy front section. Local drummer Stuart White's combo opens. Southern Flavor plays bluegrass and Americana on the deck from 5-9 p.m.
