Ad company hopes shrimp and oil dip starts conversation

Adams Outdoor Advertising has been known for some creative billboard campaign, for groups like the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and the Alliance for Full Acceptance. The kinds of things that are ambiguous for a few weeks to generate a buzz.

For several weeks, a billboard along Interstate 26 heading into Charleston has featured two dipped shrimp dangling over a black pool, creating a frowning face. The late-April spill in the Gulf Coast continues to tar the water, impacting wildlife and the fishing industry.

On its website, adamsoutdoor.com, the company said it was not trying to take sides in the Gulf oil spill. Instead, the comment suggests this is about generating a discussion.

"Our goal is to merely comment on and bring this disaster to the forefront of as many viewers' minds and conversations as possible," the statement read.
