If you’re craving an experience in the wilds, verdant and “unmarred by man,” this six-hour water tour down the blackwater of the Edisto River will sate your adventurous spirt. The expedition takes kayakers from Penny Creek to Willtown Bluff, down isolated water trails bordered by diverse plant species and home to animals like warblers, ospreys, alligators, and otters. You’ll also paddle through the rice fields of old plantations like Hope Plantation and Prospect Hill. The expedition is perfect for both new and veteran kayakers; participants are asked to bring water, sunscreen, and snacks, and shoes that can get wet.
