Auditions for Art Forms and Theatre Concepts' 2012 MOJA production of The Trial of One Short-Sighted Black Woman Vs. Mammy Louise and Safreeta Mae will be held next week. The play is a satire that puts two longstanding unfavorable African American female stereotypes on trial: the jovial, asexual, and servile, and the hyper-sexualized, Jezebel-like stereotypes.
Using a trial-like setting, the play takes the audience through a thought-provoking journey using humor and compelling testimony as the legacy of slavery is examined, exposed, and celebrated.
Any interested actors are invited to audition. Ten roles are open, including four male and seven female roles, ages 19 and up. Auditions will be held on Sun. Aug. 12 and Mon. Aug. 13 from 6-8 p.m. at 12 Southerland Avenue in Charleston.
