Veronica - A Charleston family court on Wednesday finalized the adoption of Baby Veronica by Matt and Melanie Capobianco, but the case still faces legal hurdles (WaPo/AP) in Oklahoma and the U.S. Supreme Court before the three-year old heads back to Charleston. Chief Justice John Roberts said early this week that the Capobiancos have until Friday (SCOTUSblog) to file a response to an emergency request by Veronica's biological father to block the couple's adoption of his daughter and Native American groups have said (P&C) they will sue, alleging that the court violated Veronica's civil rights.
2016 GOPers - A trio of high profile 2016 Republican presidential primary short listers, Rick Perry, Scott Walker, Bobby Jindal, are headed to the Upstate (CNN) later this month for a fundraiser sponsored by Gov. Nikki Haley's finance committee. The $1,000-per couple event will be hosted by a slew of South Carolina conservative insiders including former Ambassador David Wilkins, Sticky Fingerer Chad Walldorf, consultant-turned wino Jim Dyke, and former GOP chairs Karen Floyd and Katon Dawson.
Campbell controversy - Retired chemical engineer and State Sen. Paul Campbell is hearing some criticism (P&C) after saying he doesn't think he needs to resign his post in the Senate once he takes over as the director of Charleston International Airpot. Before the board voted to offer Campbell the job, the state attorney general (CRBJ) said the Berkeley lawmaker could legally hold both offices.
