Blues by the Sea

When: Sat., May 8, 2-7 p.m. 2010

“We try to keep the music so it’s hot, jumpin’, and rockin’,” says singer/guitarist Bobby Parker, one of three blues-rock acts due on stage at the 6th Annual Blues By the Sea concert. “The old tradition for soul and blues singers is to let the music come by you … kick in when the music’s happening, and say something hot when the music drops.” Organized by local musician and promoter Gary Erwin (a.k.a. Shrimp City Slim), Blues by the Sea has become a fun spring tradition. This Saturday, upstate S.C. singer/guitarist Shane Pruitt and his band kick things off at 2 p.m. with some riff-heavy blues-rock, soul, and roadhouse boogie. Atlanta-based singer/guitarist Skyla Burrell and her tight-rockin’ group hit the stage at 3:45 p.m. Bobby Parker and the Blues Night Band will bring an impressive variety of gritty blues, soul, and rock to the stage at 5:15 p.m. The event takes place at the Freshfields Village Green, located near the entrance to Kiawah and Seabrook islands. Food and drink will be for sale (no coolers allowed). —T. Ballard Lesemann
