BY THE NUMBERS ‌ Tickets Cover Shortfall

Mayor Joe Riley recently commented that the 2007 city budget was one of the hardest he’s worked on in some time. Mandated spending hikes from the Fed, pay increases for all staff, new positions, and no new taxes left the general fund budget short nearly $2 million. Of the city’s “enterprise funds,” the parking facilities and the city market were the only ones that directly brought in more money than they cost. Here’s a look at a few interesting figures in the parking budget, including expectations of nearly $2.9 million in parking meter violations. Ouch. Better keep the change handy.
