Cannonborough’s female entrepreneurs gather for a block party

Girl Power

Cannonborough is easily one of the city’s fastest growing areas, and with plans to make Spring Street two-way and to develop the area as a boutique B&B district, it’s only going to get better. And it just so happens that many of the neighborhood’s retail trailblazers are women. Unafraid to go where no man has gone before, these ladies have set up shops like Mac & Murphy, WildFlour Pastry, Love Me Again Clothing Exchange, and Stems that are bringing shoppers to a previously overlooked area.

Thursday night the entrepreneurs gathered at the new Audella Studios on Spring Street for a celebratory event to show off the local talent. Though we expected a Design Walk-style stroll from shop to shop, everyone gathered in the courtyard behind Audella. This emphasized the area’s community vibe even better, as guests sipped wine, noshed on cupcakes, and shopped. Leah Suarez and her band provided the jams.

As with the Upper King Design District, one day we’ll look back and think, “Remember when no one shopped in Cannonborough?” Then again, maybe that day is already here.
