When: Sun., Sept. 21, 12-6 p.m. 2014
As soon as someone brings up the phrase “going green,” our eyes tend to glaze over and our attention drifts away. We know it’s important to help the environment, but it seems “green” has become too much of a catchphrase. The Carolina Green Fair has been a platform of education for the past seven years for businesses and residents to learn about how they can go green without putting them to sleep or emptying their wallet. “The Green Fair is geared toward your average person,” says Suzie Webster, co-founder and executive director. “It has a broad spectrum to capture different people’s attentions.” The main stage will have live music all day from artists like Gaslight Street and Katina Rose, and there will be dozens of exhibitor booths showing how their business conserves energy and remains sustainable. Recycle your old threads at the Re-Trends Clothing Swap or learn how to make eco-friendly meals with demonstrations from some of Charleston’s best chefs. Plus, you can drink boxed wine without feeling cheap about it: Bota Box Wine is the official wine of the Carolina Green Fair. Bonus: it’s 100 percent recyclable. Send the kids to the eco-carnival to play on the inflatable slide, jump castle, and mechanical bull and to see interactive demonstrations from the S.C. Aquarium and Reptile Innovators. Park admission is $1, and there will be a fee of $5 for the KidZone activities.
