Cary Hudson

When: Thu., July 29 2010

Oxford, Miss.-based singer/guitarist Cary Hudson is best known for his fiery work with the recently reunited veteran rock/Americana trio Blue Mountain. This week, Hudson plays two shows in the Charleston area — a free acoustic gig at the Surf Bar on Folly Beach and a louder two-set show at Home Team BBQ on Sullivan’s. Hudson formed Blue Mountain in 1993. Melodic, dynamic, and twangy, they released four studio albums and one live disc before disbanding in 2001. His solo work resembles the deeply-rooted Southern blues and rock styles of the band. “I’ve been touring in the Carolinas for 20 years now, and it’s always been fun,” he says of his experience in the area. “A highlight was the years that the 96 Wave was on the air. I love coming there for the friendly Southern vibe, the barbecue, and the shrimp and grits.” Expect a cool mix of old Blue Mountain tunes and new songs. —T. Ballard Lesemann
