Celebrate Mardi Gras with Krewe of Charleston

The group hosts its second annual party

Want to celebrate Mardi Gras but can’t afford the 600 mile gas trip to Louisiana? Well, this year, the Krewe of Charleston will be bringing the annual spectacular event to you with their Mardi Gras Ball.

“I am from Louisiana but I always had trouble making it down for Mardi Gras once I moved to Charleston,” says Donnie Bulliard, founder of the Krewe of Charleston. Bulliard is ecstatic about bringing Mardi Gras to the Holy City for the second year in a row. “The first year was a huge success,” Bullliard says. “But we are expecting 700-800 guests this year.”

The event will feature a traditional band from New Orleans, a fully costumed court worth $100,000, and plenty of food and drink. Guests are asked to dress formally or in Mardi Gras-themed costumes. In traditional Mardi Gras fashion, the ball will feature a king and queen. This year’s queen will be former South Carolina First Lady Jenny Sanford and the king will be James McAvoy.

The ball’s Grande Marshall and Master of Ceremony will be Medal of Honor recipient (Ret.) Gen. James E. Livingston. The ball will also be used to raise money for the MUSC Children’s Hospital.
