Now that the weather has cooled down, chili seems like a no-brainer. And on Saturday, the Celebrity Chili Cook-off will even be a little heart-warming since proceeds go toward Charleston Animal Society. Now in its 22nd year, the cook-off has 125 registered teams who will serve up their best bowls of chili in hopes of being named Chili King or Queen. Participants include ABC News 4’s Dave Williams, Count on 2’s Brad Franko, Tanya Brown from Two Girls and a Guy, Kelly and Box from The Bridge, and more. In the past, some teams have gone all out too. Like last year, the ABC News 4 team dressed up in Anchor Man-inspired duds and stayed in character all day. And if you think all chili is created equal, think again. “The funkiest ingredients I have seen include sweet potato, bison, and chocolate,” says Kay Hyman, Charleston Animal Society’s director of community engagement. Ticket prices allow event-goers to taste the different iterations of the chili as well as enjoy oysters. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. And kids can play on the Velcro wall, take a turn on the mechanical bull, suit up as inflatable sumo wrestlers, and more.
Price: $20, free/children under 11
