Charleston Battery 6v6 Adult Summer Blast

When: Sat., June 23 2012

Anyone who’s caught Euro Cup fever might be interested in some Lowcountry soccer action, like when the Charleston Battery hosts youth and adult soccer tournaments at the Battery practice fields and main stadium, which spectators can enjoy for free. “All the players are much more involved in the game. There’s lots of goal-scoring opportunities,” says Charleston Battery President Andrew Bell. The adult tournament requires six players to register. Although the adult teams are slightly bigger than the youth teams, a six-player team is still small, offering much more freedom than the traditional 11v11 game. Winners from both tournaments will qualify for the World Futbol Tour World Cup this July in Mooresville, N.C. While the registration deadline for the 3v3 Youth Summer Blast Tournament has passed, registration for the 6v6 Adult Summer Blast ends June 20. After the tournaments, everyone is invited to the evening soccer game between the Charleston Battery and the Harrisburg City Islanders. “It’s a very important game,” Bell says. “[Charleston Battery] always does well when they’re playing at home. It will be an exciting match against a team that is a rival of ours.” In addition to the game, audience members will get the chance to win tickets to Zac Brown’s Southern Ground Music and Food Festival and $10,000 through the Kick for Cash half-time game.
