If you haven’t been out to Blackbaud Stadium very much this soccer season, you may not have heard the news: the Charleston Battery is doing quite well. Dressed in their signature bumblebee uniforms, the boys are in first place in the USL First Division. As of this writing, they’ve lost only two games so far, and they have yet to lose any games on their home turf. Most recently, they headed to Montreal Sunday, where former Montreal forward Dan Antoniuk scored against his old club to lift the Battery to victory. They returned home Tuesday to take on the league-leading Houston Dynamo in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. After just a two-day break, they’ll take to the field again to play the Carolina Railhawks, currently ranked fourth in District 1. Mark your calendars: the Battery takes on the Railhawks again July 24, and the Austin Aztex July 30. Oh, and here’s a little hint: we’ve been known to give away Battery tickets from our Facebook fan page, so keep a look-out. —Erica Jackson
