Coffee is an essential part of a lot of our days. Here at the City Paper, we make many an afternoon coffee run. So it was only a matter of time before Charleston decided to celebrate the caffeinated beverage. On Sunday, Joe-imbibers will have the chance to sip on 4-oz. samples of local brews from Brown’s Court Bakery, Grind and Squeeze, The Orange Spot, and more. To sample their java, event-goers will have to purchase tickets for 50 cents a sample. Coffee roasters, including Charleston Coffee Roasters, Counter Culture Coffee, King Bean, and others, will also be on hand to showcase their beans and compete in a roasting competition. Charleston’s own coffee import company The Balzac Brothers will talk about green bean importation. Nikki and Randy Keane from Balzac Brothers will help judge the coffee-roasting contest, along with Chef Joe Dimaio from Stars. And for all the baristas attending, the first 12 to sign up can show off their latte art skills in a competition. Since brunch and coffee go so well together, sippers can purchase food from Brown’s Court, Mosaic, Stars, and Dulce. A jump castle, face painting, and henna tattoos from Charleston Henna will help keep the kids entertained. And 105.5 The Bridge’s The Critic will broadcast his show live from the event. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Rainforest Alliance.
