In the new year, the Charleston Comedy Festival will take over the stages of the Sottile Theatre, Theatre 99, and other venues around town. The likes of Hannibal Buress and Doug Benson will tell jokes and get some laughs. But joining these top comedians will be three of Charleston’s own. And you, our friends, have the chance to say who it’ll be. The Stand-up Competition has been weeding out the funny people of Charleston since September, and it all comes down to this. The six finalists — Mike Brocki, Anthony Driver, Sam Hendry, Jeremy McLellan, Taylor Rizzo, and Peter Schwartz — will perform their routines, and the audience members get to vote for their two favorites. The top three will move on to the Charleston Comedy Festival Stand-up Competition Winners Showcase. And there’s some cash on the line: $500 will be awarded to the comic with the most audience votes, and the comic selected by a panel of judges also gets $500.
