Charleston Craft Bee

When: Fri., June 18, 7-9 p.m. 2010

For those of you who consider shopping at Michael’s an exciting weekend outing, clear your schedules for the Charleston Craft Bee. On Friday, three local women will host the first Bee in honor of the birthday of handmade-goods haven Etsy.com. Everyone is welcome to attend, even if you struggle with the most minor of creative tasks. Guests will choose between three craft tables, each focusing on a different endeavor; by selecting a single craft to work on, they can bring a complete product home with them. Potential crafts for the event include sewing projects, stencil paintings, origami mobiles, and light fixtures. “I’m so excited to be able to just sit down and do a craft, as well as for people to be able to express their creativity through these crafts,” co-host Christine Tiller says. The women hope to make the Charleston Craft Bee an annual, or even bi-annual, event, and hope to expand craft options for future events. Most of the materials will be provided and a $5 donation is suggested to help cover their cost. —Kelly Smith
