Charleston Home + Design Show

When: Jan. 23-25 2009

As Charleston continues to grow into a design destination, the Charleston Home + Design Show fills a niche for the kind of people obsessed with watching HGTV. Guests will have the opportunity to network with countless local businesses ranging from lighting specialists to painters to landscapers. You can even chat with a gutter company if that’s what you need. The event also includes seminars, design consultations, and “speed dating” with architects, builders, and interior designers. A fun part of the event is the Celebrity Designer Idea Rooms, an exhibition of six rooms styled by local celebrities and executed by various local designers and furniture providers. The end result will be a nice mélange of tastes and liveable spaces, and the winning room will receive a $500 prize to go to a charity of the designer’s choice. It’s a win-win for all of us who get to go — see our favorite Lowcountry TV anchors, radio personalities, and columnists, get some design ideas, and decide which room is the swankiest. The array of celebrities include Carrol Murray, Warren Peper, and Brendan Clark from Count on 2 News, Kelly Golden of 94.3’s Charleston’s Morning News, radio personality Rowdy Nites of 103.5 WEZL, and Bryce Donovan from The Post and Courier. We may be biased toward cute cats and dogs, but Brendan Clark’s upscale lounge room for the Charleston Animal Society sounds like a pretty solid contender. —Hadley Lyman
