Charleston Jazz Orchestra: Holiday Swing

When: Sat., Nov. 22, 8 p.m. 2014

Around this time of year, it gets difficult to decide what events to attend. If you’re overwhelmed by your options just remember, “it don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.” The Charleston Jazz Orchestra is ending their season with their annual performance of the Holiday Swing: A Charleston Jazz Tradition concert to get you pumped for the holiday season. The Holiday Swing concert features a 20-piece big band composed of trumpets and trombones as well as reeds and a rhythm section (guitar, piano, bass, and drums). They will perform Duke Ellington pieces, Billy Strayhorn’s “Nutcracker Suite,” additional arrangements of holiday classics, and season highlights from previous concerts including Such Sweet Strayhorn, Little Girl Blue, Silver Messenger, Buena Vista, and Swingelectric. In addition to trumpet and vocals, jazz artist Charlton Singleton will conduct the concert, and Charleston Jazz Orchestra vocalist Leah Suárez will provide some jazzy vocals. “Every show is unique,” says Suárez. “Our only expectation is that the audience enjoys their experience as much as we enjoy making the music.”
