Charleston Kite Race

When: Sat., May 19, 10:30 a.m. 2012

Kiteboard racing is coming back to Charleston, and this time the event is aiming even higher than last year. Sullivan’s Island will be the location of Charleston Kite Week 2.0, sponsored by Charleston Waterkeeper, Air & Earth, and Oli Nah. “Kiteboard racing is growing in popularity around the world, and to give everybody a taste of it here we’ve organized a race,” says organizer Hunter Stunzi. “We want to give all the kiteboarders here in Charleston something else to do other than just going out to the beach and jumping over each other. Everybody that competed last year personally came up to me and said they had great time.” All proceeds from this year’s race go to support Charleston Waterkeeper, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the public’s right to clean, fishable, swimmable, drinkable water. The official Charleston Kite Week 2.0 After-Party will be held at Upstairs at Midtown from 7-10 pm.
