Charleston Pride Parade

When: Sat., Aug. 1, 9 a.m. 2015

Pull out those rainbow toe socks your grandmother bought you for Christmas because it’s time for the Charleston Pride Parade. The almost two mile long march will travel from Ann Street to King Street, down Broad Street, and will end at Colonial Lake. Chase Glenn, Vice Chair and Chief Operating Officer at the Charleston Pride Festival says, “It’s a wonderful opportunity to come out and support the LGBTQ community while celebrating the diversity of Charleston.” Registered parade groups (floats and walkers) are automatically entered to win awards for their part in the parade in categories like “Best Use of Pride Colors,” “Most Creative/Unsual,” “Best Use of Music,” and “Most Fabulously Dressed.” There will be at least two live bands performing on top of floats, so be prepared to get your funk on. The Human Rights Campaign is sponsoring Jim Obergefell, the lead plaintiff in the U.S. Supreme Court ruling, to lead as the grand marshal of the parade and to give what will presumably be an inspiring speech
