Charleston Summer Classic I Horse Show

When: July 11-15 2012

All the naysayers have nothing on the Charleston Summer Classic I Horse Show. For its 20th anniversary season, the Southeast’s Classic Company will bring their Summer Classic to the Mullet Hall Equestrian Center on Johns Island starting on July 11. An estimated 400-450 horses from the entire East Coast, and even barns as far away as New Jersey and Indiana, will be brought to the venue. “It’s high-level, television quality. It’s very competitive,” says Ray Tanner from Mullet Hall Equestrian Center. “This is what the horse world is about. This is the real deal.” Competition categories will include the USHJA (United States Hunter Jumper Association) National Hunter Derby, Low Level Jumpers, and USEF AA Rated Hunters. Horses will be held in the current stalls at Mullet Hall, with additional barns set up in circus-like tents for a total of 400-500 stalls. Classes vary by age and professional level, from riders ranging from the age of eight to 60 or older. And there are some serious prizes at stake for the professional levels. The second round of the competition, the Pony Hunter Classic, will offer equestrians a shot at winning $25,000. “It’s fast and furious,” Tanner says. And best of all, it’s free to the public.
