When: Sat., Nov. 23, 1-5 p.m. 2013
Join the Charleston Animal Society for its 98th chili cook-off (in dog years), where more than 55 teams will compete for best chili in town. Businesses, organizations, and individuals can sign up through the CAS website and set a fundraising goal. (Businesses need to raise $2,000, organizations $1,000, and individuals $500.) You can also donate to a specific team, and if you donate at least $20, you’ve got a ticket, just bring your receipt to the stadium. In addition to all the chili, there’ll be firefighter calendar models, redneck horseshoes, a jump castle, a photo booth, and a TV football zone. The goal is to raise $150,000 for the Charleston Animal Society. “This is benefiting our medical fund, which is Toby’s Medical Fund,” says the CAS’s Kay Hyman. “This benefits animals which are most at risk, so it’s for the abused and abandoned animals.” The fund is named after the dog Toby, who was brought to the CAS suffering from terrible chemical burns. The CAS treated him, and now he’s living with a loving adopted family. He’ll even be at the event if you want to meet him. But be warned — he’ll probably want you to share your chili with him.
Price: $20/adv., $25/door, free/kids under 11
