For its brief time in existence, System of a Down was the best metal act in the world. They were also the most fearless, combining Middle Eastern elements and comedy with Mr. Bungle-style schizo rock and brutal heavy metal licks.
If you haven't listened to their final two albums, Mesmerize and Hypnotize, do so now.
Following the dissolution of the band, lead singer Serj Tankian embarked on a career as a solo artist and a political agitator. On Thurs. March 4, at 8 p.m., Cinebarre will show a concert film, Elect the Dead Symphony, featuring Tankian and the 70-piece Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, playing selections from Serj's debut solo album. It should be impressive. Tickets are $8. To purchase advance tickets, call (843) 628-1188.
