Civil War Fashion Try-on Event

When: Sat., July 6, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. 2013

Show me someone who doesn’t like playing dress-up, and I’ll show you a liar. Indulge yourself at the Charleston Museum as they team up with the Carolina Ladies Aid Society for the Civil War Fashion Try-On event. They’ll have men’s and women’s clothing from the mid-19th century for kids and adults alike. And despite what you might think, Rachel Chesser of the Charleston Museum says, “Everyone has gotten into dressing up: men, women, and children.” There’s even a couple who attended the event first as newlyweds, then as expecting parents, and then with their newborn baby. “Yes, we even have baby clothes,” says Chesser, who says the best part of the event is the attention everyone gets. The Carolina Ladies Aid Society is not only a group of living historians — they’re stylists, too. They get you into perfect outfits and accessories and make sure everything fits before you visit the on-site photographer to capture your blast-from-the-past get-up. You’re welcome to bring your own camera, but be sure to get in line early because the photography ends promptly at 1 p.m.
