After years of rolling up at office parks and farmers markets, one of Charleston’s favorite food trucks got its own restaurant, opening on Remount Road in July 2019. Owners Stephen Thompson and Oscar Hines will keep some of the truck’s familiar riffs on Latin-Asian cuisine, packing as much five spice pork belly, fried rice, and kimchi into a burrito as possible. But the menu also has new additions that give the kitchen a chance to flex a little with items like paella and duck ramen — there’s even a curry shrimp and grits available at brunch (Saturday and Sunday, by the way). The nearby Park Circle neighborhood seems to have an endless appetite for new, homespun joints, at least that’s what we assume from the initial crowds at Dashi. —Sam Spence (Dish, Summer 2019)
